The first trailer for Deep Water with Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas has been released. The minute and a half trailer hints at a romantic psychological thriller that will see the two actors playing mind games with one another.
Deep Water is an adaptation of a 1957 novel by Patricia Highsmith, who also wrote The Talented Mr. Ripley. The film is about Vic (Affleck) and Melinda Van Allen (de Armas), a married couple who see themselves drifting apart. Wanting to avoid the complicated divorce process, Vic allows Melinda to become involved in several affairs as long as the family stays together. However, Vice becomes jealous, and the two become involved in dangerous mind games with each other, while everyone who knows them gets caught in the crossfire.
The first trailer for Deep Water hints at this toxic relationship as de Armas questions Affleck on why he wants to stay with her when most men leave. As the tension and eroticism build, the trailer ends with two stating that there is something wrong with both of them as they embrace for a kiss. The chemistry between de Armas and Affleck is both captivating and disturbing as the two seem like a horrible, but perfect pairing.
Deep Water is directed by Adrian Lyne, who has directed other psychological thrillers including Fatal Attraction, with a screenplay written by Sam Levinson, the creator of HBO’s Euphoria. The rest of the cast includes Tracy Letts, Lil Rel Howery, Dash Mihok, Finn Wittrock, Kristen Connolly, Jacob Elordi, Rachel Blanchard, and Michael Braun.
The film will be released on Hulu in the U.S. on March 18 while it will be released in the U.K. on the same day on Amazon Prime Video. Here is the official description of the film.
“Based on the celebrated novel by famed mystery writer Patricia Highsmith, ‘Deep Water’ takes us inside the marriage of picture-perfect Vic (Affleck) and Melinda (de Armas) Van Allen to discover the dangerous mind games they play and what happens to the people that get caught up in them.”
