A hugely moving moment of defiance and fierce love is going viral on Reddit. The clip reportedly shows a man shaving his wife’s hair off as she’s suffering from cancer, presumably going through chemotherapy. Then, in moving solidarity, the husband shaves his own hair off. Adding even greater poignancy, the couple shave their heads in front of their toddler daughter.
There are some videos which are almost impossible not to be moved by. For me and many others on Reddit, this is one of them. As one Redditor puts it, “I’ve seen so many couples in my life, but I’ve never seen such awe and care.” Indeed, the gentle compassion the husband and wife have for each other is truly inspiring and heart-breaking given the circumstances.
The clip begins with the husband gently shaving off his wife’s hair as their toddler daughter plays with Mom, obviously watching on without understanding. Beautiful in her baldness, the lady puts little pink bunny ears on to make it all less harrowing for her toddler. “The way she puts the headband with ears on her head, turning it into a game with her daughter,” one commenter says.
The husband then does something that clearly surprises the woman. He turns the shaver on himself. The moving moment of unselfish solidarity makes the mom tear up, and she’s not the only one. “I’ve seen so many couples in my life, but I’ve never seen such awe and care… Bro is Winning a losing game,” one Redditor puts it. Another sums it up well: “He’s not just a husband, he’s a true partner.”

It’s not often we’re permitted to see such deeply personal, moving moments in people’s lives. Indeed, it’s a privilege. The bittersweet moment a couple shave their heads in front of their daughter is one that we can all find inspiration in. It’s a reminder that, no matter how tough life gets, there are those who care about us. We need those loved ones to share our pain with.
As one Redditor tragically puts it, though, as inspirational as these moments of defiance are, sadly things don’t always work out. Often life isn’t fair, it isn’t romantic.
