After several years passed, Toby Fox has finally broken his silence to announce the release window for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4. In a holiday newsletter, the dev said that the two chapters were ready and Deltarune would be released in 2025. The post also talked about the challenges Toby Fox and his team had to face during these years. Funnily enough, the newsletter started with the man nudging his fans to follow him on Bluesky instead of Twitter, which is now called X.

In the next section of the post, Toby Fox talked about having to update GameMaker. This necessary upgrade apparently caused various bugs and issues to emerge. Even the old problems that had been fixed showed up again after they updated their game engine. The man said that after they released Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4, they would need to tinker with the GameMaker again. This will likely cause another round of bugs to appear, which may imply that there could be another lengthy wait.

Toby Fox then said that Deltarune reached its 6th anniversary. The man stated that they only managed to release two chapters so far despite Undertale being out nine years ago. “Internally, Chapters 3 and 4 are basically completed besides translation and bug testing…” Toby Fox wrote. “They are frozen… waiting to be released…”

It seems that Deltarune‘s development process is going smoothly despite the issues Toby Fox and his team encountered. The man then shared some bug reports from a group of professional game testers. Besides Deltarune having a lengthy section where players can’t save, some testers also reported a handful of bugs that weren’t actually one. “Chapter 3 is pretty solid now!” Toby Fox said. “Only console-related aspects remain.”

The newsletter also included snippets of Deltarune dialogues. Toby Fox explained that they were currently translating Chapter 4 into Japanese. He said that once they were done with the translation, they would begin PC testing. After that is over, then the team will proceed with console testing for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4.
