Weather is something we can’t control, yet it end up affecting us big time. Normally, one would have common sense when driving during bad weather, especially to prevent accidents. However, common sense is the one thing that many drivers lack, and while Arizona isn’t among the states with the worst drivers, this recent situation might make you think otherwise. Not long ago, several vehicles collided on the I-17 southbound in Arizona due to heavy fog and snow. Yet what made the situation even more frustrating and dangerous for people was that, despite the road being covered in snow and everyone having low visibility, they just kept flooring it without regard for others’ safety.
A citizen who was driving on the I-17 in Arizona shared their dashcam footage, where you can see the highway partially covered in snow, and with low visibility due to the heavy fog. The OP mentions that an accident had already occurred, bringing traffic to a halt. While they were among the few who managed to slow down to prevent the situation from escalating, other drivers didn’t have this level of common sense.
As you can see in the footage, other drivers come in at high speeds, disregarding the road’s condition or the stopped traffic. While we’d like to say these people didn’t cause an even bigger accident, that wasn’t the case. If you look at the following picture, OP shows that several other vehicles collided with one another, making the accident much larger than it should have been, mainly because people didn’t slow down when they had to.
The OP mentions how, despite all the cars piled up in the crash, it seems all people came out unscathed, as no one got hurt due to this situation. Still, it makes many wonder why drivers, despite having a hard time seeing in dense fog and snowy roads, continue to drive fast.
“Typical of people to drive way too fast in an environment they can’t even see through.” – Shameonyourhouse via Reddit.
“The road doesn’t look that bad in this clip. This is people just being completely careless.” – Mysterious_Luck via Reddit.
It is extremely shocking to see how little people care about their own safety and that of others. The right thing to do in bad weather is to drive slowly and safely. Yet, it seems nothing is serious enough to stop people’s carelessness. Fortunately, no one got hurt during this, apparently, but it will still be a costly situation for those involved.
