Celebrities announcing their political beliefs and liaisons are always a controversial topic, and the most recent example was none other than singer and songwriter Nicki Minaj. Her attendance at Erika Kirk’s Turning Point event has effectively sealed her alignment with the Trump administration. The move has since brought out Minaj’s haters in droves, some of whom are now calling for her deportation back to Trinidad for supposedly being an illegal immigrant, an immigration status that MAGA supporters usually abhor.
A Change.org petition named “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad” is now going viral and is gaining traction, with nearly 9,000 signatures at the time of writing. The petition has even cited decision makers such as the US Assistant Secretary of the Army, the White House, ICE, and even the FBI, to hopefully carry out this deportation.
While the deportation petition doesn’t specifically cite Minaj’s support for MAGA as one of its creators’ motivations, it still brought to light other issues that the 44-year-old rapper is facing. One of the most prominent among them is how Minaj is married to Kenneth Petty, “a registered sex offender, whose criminal history brings additional concern.” Apart from that, Minaj’s “erratic behavior” and supposed “psychosis” were also placed in the spotlight.
As for Minaj’s citizenship, she actually revealed in the past that she immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago to the US illegally. Minaj even called out Donald Trump’s anti-immigration policies back in 2018 during his first presidency. In 2024, the Hollywood rapper even announced that she was still undocumented, “I’m not a citizen of America. Isn’t that crazy?” Certain sentiments, like “The 44 year-old plus size MAGA Puppet once Revealed that she was brought to States through an illegal Route,” are not entirely unfounded.
People online are bashing the immigrant who’s against immigrants
Because of her rather questionable pivot to supporting the very administration and policies she criticized in the past, people online have been calling out Nicki Minaj and are even signing the petition in droves. “I stand very strongly with immigrants… but an immigrant who’s against immigrants… needs to be deported,” claims a commenter on the petition page.
Apparently, even some supposed MAGA supporters are agreeing to the petition and want Minaj to be deported, “She should be held to the same laws she is supporting,” with another also commenting, “She is an illegal and needs to be deported.” Others have also added Minaj’s husband into their tirades, “Please remove this alien and her evil husband from my country including that child.”
While many have called out petition signers who are pro-immigration, there was another argument to be made for those who tolerate Minaj’s presence, “Now suddenly, Maga is OK with illegal immigrants?…” asks an X user. Regardless, it appears both sides of the political spectrum are torn on how exactly to treat Minaj.
