A man in California was recently brutally attacked by a mob of ICE supporters armed with baseball bats. The incident occurred in downtown Sacramento and highlights the increasingly heated political climate in America, which has often led to violence. After emerging online, the footage has drawn criticism against the attackers, whose actions were deemed criminal by most commenters.
In the video (which you can view here), it’s possible to see an anti-ICE protester being ruthlessly assaulted by seven people. The attackers initially use a baseball bat to strike a white van that belonged to the protester, which had a flag saying “*Expletive* Trump.” When the vehicle’s owner attempts to intervene, the group overwhelms him, punching and striking him with a baseball bat. After knocking the man to the ground, one individual restrains him while shouting, and a woman who appears to be part of the mob sprays him in the face.
After the assault, most of the group continued to walk on the street as if nothing had happened. Not all passersby ignored the scene, though. One man tried to help the victim, only to have the assailants return, shout at him, and throw his phone on the ground.
Another video shared on TikTok provided additional details about the incident that happened in Sacramento, California. In it, a man who witnessed the attack and knew the victim explained that his friend was protesting largely alone, while the whole block was filled with MAGA trucks, pro-ICE people with flags. He even mentioned that the same mob assaulted a 12-year-old kid, throwing him on the van and leaving a visible blood mark.
People Online Were Enraged by the Attack in Sacramento, California
Folks on Reddit were outraged by the senseless attack on this helpless individual. One Redditor commented on the severity of the episode, saying, “Well, that looks a lot like video evidence of assault with a deadly weapon.” Others pointed out that the protester could be at risk of death even if he was attacked by a single person with a baseball bat, let alone a group of seven people, so it must have been a pretty scary situation.
Others complained about the current political climate in California, saying that “The Central Valley is basically Texas” and that people from outside the state have no idea how much radical right-wing groups have grown in the area, and how violent they can get.
Some people even warned anti-ICE protesters to avoid going to events alone, as they could struggle to defend themselves in unexpected situations such as this one. Overall, however, the sentiment was that these are indeed dark times and, as one commenter indicated, “I’m starting to think we will never again live peaceful lives.”
