Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis touted the state’s historic Republican voter-registration shift while discussing the party’s November prospects. He said Republicans now outnumber Democrats by 1.5 million registered voters, reversing a former Democratic advantage. DeSantis also credited his administration with expanding Republican opportunities across Florida.

A video of the remarks circulated on X. DeSantis focused on registration gains, statewide races and congressional control.

🚨 NOW: Gov. Ron DeSantis just DROPPED this truth nuke

"Since I've gotten in — we've gone from HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS more registered Democrats in Florida…"

DeSantis said Florida once had hundreds of thousands more registered Democrats than Republicans. Republicans now hold a 1.5 million registration advantage, according to his remarks.

“That’s never happened anywhere in the United States of America at that scale.”

He recalled a roughly 300,000 Republican registration advantage when he ran four years earlier. He called that advantage “unbelievable” because Florida had never recorded a Republican registration lead.

“And it’s just gone bonkers since then.”

DeSantis said current Republican candidates have opportunities he did not have when entering state politics. He pointed to the growing number of voters who aligned with his administration’s approach.

He also said Florida is no longer competitive in statewide races. Some congressional races remain different because candidates must introduce themselves in newly drawn districts.

DeSantis then credited his 2022 congressional map veto with helping Republicans retain control of the U.S. House.

“Let’s just remind everybody that that was very important.”

He said the current political landscape could become “very significant” in November.

“We’ll see how it all shakes out.”

Florida Republicans Split Over Byron Donalds After DeSantis Touts GOP Registration Gains

DeSantis’ remarks quickly drew a wider debate over whether Donalds can preserve Florida’s Republican advantage.

One user wrote, “Don’t worry with Byron Donalds it will quickly shift back. Congratulations.”

Another warned, “Going to be ruined by Byron Donalds. Hopefully florida can survive 4 years of a lame duck Donalds admin.”

A separate response stated, “And now a ton of those registered republicans are fixing to replace Ronnie D with a Democrat. I’m one of them.”

Another wrote, “Democrats will win in November against @ByronDonalds As a lifelong republican, I, along many other will not be voting for him.”

Other reactions expressed more confidence in Donalds. One user wrote, “Governor, please make sure when you go, leave your playbook for Byron Donalds. You’re the best Governor in the Country!”

Another stated, “He’s impossible to replace. Donalds has a tough act to follow. I hope he’s up to the task.”

The November election will provide the first real test of whether Florida’s historic Republican voter registration advantage can be maintained in the post-DeSantis era. Judging by the concerns raised by some Republicans, not everyone is convinced the party’s recent gains are guaranteed to last.
