If you’ve always wanted to try out Destiny 2 but felt too intimidated to drop cash on it, you’re in luck. To celebrate the one year anniversary of Destiny 2 on Battle.net, players can claim the game totally free through November 18. This is no “free two week trial” either; download the game before then, and it’s yours to keep forever.
It’s basically a win-win situation: for Activision-Blizzard, it gets more people to create accounts for Battle.net and reinvigorates the player base of a year-old game. The Forsaken expansion also released a few months ago, so getting more players into Destiny 2 will mean more are likely to pick that up. For players, you get an absolutely free AAA title with a ton of depth and gameplay. Due to how Destiny 2 plays, it’s also a good chance to build a new squad with your friends, because who doesn’t like free?
According to Business Wire, Steve Cotton, the director for Destiny 2: Forsaken, summed the decision up like this: “We know Destiny players that want to play on PC expect an amazing experience, whether it’s on their own or with their friends — so, our paramount concern was to keep the discerning requirements of the PC community in mind, and welcoming the Battle.net and Bungie PC communities together. With this gift we look forward to seeing new Guardians in our universe.”
Despite a shaky start, we quite liked Destiny 2. That shaky start also did not stop it from becoming the largest PC release in the Activision’s history. Most PC gamers probably have a Battle.net account anyway – go give Destiny 2 a shot and see how it plays. Everyone who owns the game will also get to try out Forsaken‘s new mode, “Gambit,” on the weekend of November 9th through November 11th. Put together a squad and we’ll see you there.
