Destiny 2 has kicked off its Heavy Metal event, which pits Guardians against each other in a unique way. Instead of doing the good old shooting on foot, you’ll pilot a mecha or a tank to blast each other to pieces. However, blasting other Guardians in a satisfying way isn’t the only reward. There are many items to claim during this limited-time event, including a new combat Sparrow. So, if you want a break from the dungeon-grinding, now’s the time to jump into a colossal machine to obliterate other players.
[Updated on September 2, 2025: Added information for the recent Heavy Metal Event]
How To Start the Heavy Metal Event in Destiny 2

By now, you should know that all new and returning events in Destiny 2, including Heavy, can be accessed from the Portal. You can also find all the daily and weekly challenges there, as well as inspect the rewards track, so you can see what you’ll get at each level, as well as inspect the Engrams containing the new weapons. However, as a PSA for everyone out there, remember that you’ll only get tiered loot and rewards by playing through the Portal, not the Tower.
We discovered this early when the event went live, so if you’re used to playing from the Tower, don’t do it this time. Go to your Portal and start from there.
Heavy Metal Rewards

Like previous iterations, this version of Heavy Metal includes some familiar rewards for Destiny 2 players, such as the Gryphon vehicle we saw before the expansion’s launch. However, players should watch out for the new weapons that come from the Engrams. Below are versions of these two weapons you’ll get from the rewards track:
- Synanceia (Solar Sword)
- Tenacity/Hakke Breach Armaments (Origin Traits)
- Tempered Edge (Blade)
- Balance Guard (Guard)
- Sharp Harvest (Enhanced Trait)
- Binary Orbit (Enhanced Trait)
- Trachinus (Stasis Shotgun)
- Tenacity/Veist Stinger (Origin Traits)
- Smallbore (Barrel)
- Light Mag (Magazine)
- Lead From Gold (Enhanced Trait)
- Headstone (Enhanced Trait)

Aside from that, you can also use your Enhancement Cores and Glimmer to purchase weapons and armor. Here’s the list of the Focused Decoding lineup:
- Steel Sybil Z-14 Void Sword
- Wishbringer Solar Shotgun
- Last Perdition Void Pulse Rifle
- Stars in Shadow Solar Pulse Rifle
- The Keening Arc Sidearm
- Frozen Orbit Void Sniper Rifle
- Survivor’s Epitaph Kinetic Hand Cannon

- Crisis Inverted Arc Hand Cannon

Furthermore, you can spend your event tokens in the Event Shop to get materials and Heavy Metal Engrams. However, the weapons aren’t that great, so you should stick to grinding the event to unlock the Sparrow, which is the ultimate reward.
