The Destiny 2 weapon crafting mechanic was introduced with the Witch Queen expansion. Thanks to this mechanic, our dependence on the RNG when it comes to weapon drops. Although you will have to jump through some hoops before you can craft weapons, once you do, you will be able to tailor each and every weapon to suit your playstyle.

Before we go on to the guide, you need to consider one very important factor. Not all weapons can be built through the Destiny 2 Weapon crafting mechanic. With that out of the way, here is how you can start crafting weapons in Destiny 2.

How to craft weapons in Destiny 2

Before you get on with the Destiny 2 Weapon crafting, you will have to play through the first few mission in the Witch Queen expansion. To complete the mission, you have to go to the Enclave on Mars. This area houses the Relic Conduit, where you will be able to craft weapons in Destiny 2. You will also unlock the new Deepsight ability, which will help you extract weapon patterns.

What are these Destiny 2 weapon patterns?

If you’ve played the Witch Queen expansion, you will notice that some weapons have a red border around their icons. These weapons are known as Deepsight Resonant weapons. The specialty of these Deepsight Resonant weapons is that you can easily extract the pattern from it. To successfully craft a weapon, you will have to complete multiple Deepsight Resonant extractions for one weapon.

To perform an extraction, pick up a red border weapon and then go complete any major activity like a Strike or even a Containment event on the Derelict Leviathan. At the end of the mission, if you’ve managed to kill enough enemies, you will get a notification that will tell you that the Deepsight Resonance for the weapon is complete. Head over to your character customization screen and then click on the Deepsight Resonant weapon that’s in use.

On the page that opens next, you will see a red slot. Hover over that slot and press the required button to extract the pattern. Different weapons have different pattern requirements. Some weapons require 5 pattern extractions, while others require just 3.

Now that you have successfully completed a pattern extraction, make your way to the Relic Conduit at the Enclave and then interact with it. That should open up a new window with two options, “Shape” and “Reshape.” Select “Shape” and then select the weapon you want to craft. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the perks you want to, and then craft the weapon in Destiny 2.

As you keep using the weapon, it will keep leveling up. You will unlock new perks for your weapon as you hit higher levels. To use these perks, you will have to “Reshape” your weapon and select these new perks as and when they’re available. The best idea would be to level your weapon all the way to level 30. While “Reshaping” is a level 30 weapon, you will be able to pick perks from a list of enhanced perks as well.

And with that, we come to the end of the Destiny 2 weapon crafting guide. Although there is a mission in the game that does teach you how to craft weapons, this guide might come in handy in case you’ve missed the steps.
