New details have been revealed on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The theme park is coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort in 2019. And as each passing month brings the date closer, we learn more about what is ahead.
John Williams is composing original themes for the park with the London Symphony Orchestra. He is practically synonymous with Star Wars, so it is exciting to see him composing again for this park. The names of two rides have been revealed as well. The first is Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. It allows fans to control the legendary ship in one of three unique flight crew roles. The second attraction is Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, that puts fans in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
A new planet has been added to the Star Wars universe just for this occasion. The theme park will take place on the planet Batuu on its Black Spire Outpost. The outpost is infamous for its traders, adventurers, and smugglers. On the Outer Rim, it was designed by Doug Chiang who had this to say on the project:
“ . . . we’ve been working on this for two and half years . . . To finally reveal it to the public is a little nerve-wracking, because you never know what the reaction will be. But it’s so heart-warming to see the smiles on people’s faces when they see something like this.”
The outpost will have food stalls that serve Star Wars food such as blue milk, and a Cantina with four-armed Rex in it, as well as others well-known characters. In creating something this detailed, Chiang commented:
“The process is pretty in-depth, because we’re trying to anchor something that’s very grounded in the Star Wars universe, yet add something new to it. So it’s a very fine line of where that balance should be. For this land in particular, we were very careful because we wanted to create something fresh that would be timeless. You know, like a film, these have to exist for years and years, and so we wanted to make sure that we captured that perfect note.”
