Star Wars fans have just received their first morsel of information on the upcoming live action television series. According to Making Star Wars, the series will take place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
This is a very rich time period to pull from as the gap between the two films has yet to be deeply explored in the current Star Wars cannon. Additionally, the show will primarily take place on Mandalore, a planet seen in both The Clone Wars and Rebels TV series. It should be interesting to see how the live action Star Wars television show ill harken back to the animated series. Mandalore is a war torn planet with a lot of interesting history to pull from. There are some amazing loose ends on the table for the writers to work with to tie a lot of the universe together.
Jon Favreau, of Iron Man fame, will be directing the series that will be coming exclusively to the Disney streaming service. He is also slated to play a big role in the writers room. It seems that Disney is giving Favreau full reign over the project. Favreau had this to say about working on the show:
If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.
The Star Wars television series will look to bring the big budget spectacle the series is known for down to the small screen. The series is reported to have a massive budget of over $100 million, so Favreau will have plenty of cash to work with to make his vision come to life.
The live action Star Wars series still has no definitive release date, but it is rumored to start production by the end of this year.
