When you buy something online there is always a chance that something might go wrong during the delivery process. Packages can sometimes get lost in transit, arrive late, or turn up at the wrong address. But one of the biggest headaches that many online shoppers eventually have to deal with is damage. A box may show up on your doorstep, but inside the item is cracked, dented, or worse. It is no secret that many delivery services do not always treat packages with the care that customers would hope for. From dropping to tossing to outright kicking boxes, stories of careless handling are common, and plenty of customers have seen the evidence firsthand. For one Detroit, Michigan resident, this issue has become more than just a minor inconvenience. Reddit user u/spetstnelis shared their experience in r/mildlyinfuriating, where they described a drawn-out ordeal involving a standing desk they had ordered from Vernal and delivered by FedEx. What should have been a simple delivery turned into a series of frustrations.

[UPDATE] Shout out to FedEx for this delivery

The first delivery by FedEx ended badly when the desk arrived with noticeable damage. Although the package was technically delivered, the item inside showed clear dents and other signs of rough treatment. In replies to commenters, the Detroit resident explained, “I tried to be clear about the entire FedEx dropping the ball/package, not the worker,” acknowledging that delivery drivers often work under difficult conditions. Still, they noted bluntly, “there was damage.”

Hoping for a better outcome, Vernal quickly arranged for a replacement desktop. Unfortunately, that shipment also arrived via FedEx, and once again the delivery went poorly. This time the same driver dropped off the replacement, which also appeared to be damaged. “Standing desk company shipped a replacement desktop, only for the same person to deliver via FedEx Ground,” they wrote. “I think this might actually be less severe than the first delivery, but I haven’t opened the package yet.”

Other Redditors who saw the video uploaded by the Detroit resident were quick to share their outrage. The fact that both desks were delivered in damaged condition, and by the same FedEx worker, only added to the frustration. One commenter suggested, “Yeah… he’s doing that on purpose. I’d just keep escalating with FedEx with video proof until he gets fired.” Others agreed that the worker’s handling was unacceptable, even if the job itself is demanding.

One person put it plainly: “Bruh, that was so unnecessary. I know those jobs suck, but I’ve worked crappy jobs and not gone out of my way to make the customer’s day worse. Just set the box down on the porch, it takes two more seconds.”

Many users urged the Detroit resident to pursue the matter further and report the driver directly to FedEx. Some believed the rough handling looked intentional and that the employee needed to be held accountable before more customers had their purchases destroyed. Another Redditor observed the way the package was dropped and concluded, “Dropping it so the edge would hit the corner of the column was pretty much the worst way he could have done it. The delivery companies need to stop sending out so many heavy packages to be delivered by drivers with no help or moving equipment.”
