A woman in New York City, New York, received an email saying that she had been banned from an online dating app. She appealed, to no avail, and while devastated, she believes her ex is to blame for her virtual romantic ostracism.
Erica Meissner, the New York woman, detailed her tragedy on TikTok, saying that she had woken up to a notification that she had been banned from Hinge, the dating app. Of course, she was confused, saying, “Hello? I’m banned? What is this, Club Penguin?”
Apparently, she had “violated the terms and conditions,” although Hinge didn’t explain what terms and conditions she had allegedly breached. Of course, Erica wasn’t willing to forgo her romantic escapades, and she decided to appeal the ban, hoping for the best. Bizarrely, Hinge demanded she write a text on why she shouldn’t be banned, as if she were in detention.
“I don’t even remember what I said,” Erica said. “I think it was like, ‘I really love being on Hinge, I like supporting an inclusive environment.'”
That made things worse, as the New York woman then received another email while at work later in the day. She had been banned for life. Hinge was no longer accepting her, despite her not knowing why. Erica, however, tried to make a new account using her mother’s phone number. Turns out, her Apple ID had been blocked out of Hinge.
Her Ex Was Behind It?
After desperately doing some research, she concluded that the only way she could have been banned out of the blue was if someone had reported her. While she admitted that she had said some spicy things on the app, she believes her behavior didn’t deserve a permaban.
Then, she remembered. Two days before getting banned, she saw her ex-boyfriend’s roommate on Hinge, and she believes he is the one who reported her.
“There is literally no other explanation for this. I don’t have enemies like this,” she said. “You won, I’m off Hinge. Now I’ll never meet a man again. Thanks.”
While pleading for Hinge to help her, she is contemplating the possibility of meeting new people the old way: out in the wild. She even fantasized about meeting her future husband at a bar, which is a decent way to cope, maybe?
Her clip was seen by a quarter of a million users, and a good chunk of them shared her misfortune: they, too, were banned without an explanation.
“The exact same happened to me, and I literally have never figured out why,” one user said. Another one commented, “‘I like being on hinge,’ said no one ever“. A third one added, “Hinge: ‘you can’t have it back until you tell us how much you love me.'”
