Diablo 4 marks the return of the iconic action-RPG series in the modern generation of gaming, bringing innovations and problems. For PC gamers, although new entries of the series are rare, the Diablo series has been a must-have game for well over 20 years. With extremely popular entries, such as the classic Diablo 2, many players were ready to be disappointed by anything new coming to the game. However, Diablo 4 seems to be not only a worthy entry to the series but helps build upon the original concept of the previous games. Despite its success and potential, Diablo 4 still needs some work before it will become the best of the series. Luckily, with constant updates, Diablo 4, even past release, still has a chance to correct its past problems and become a better game.
Diablo as a series has been around for a long time, with the original released in 1997. Despite so much history behind the game, the series still has kept its core gameplay yet still manages to build upon the basic formula to keep things from getting stale. Currently, Blizzard has released four games throughout the last 26 years. However, there are some side games. This includes the infamous mobile game Diablo Immortal, which was panned for featuring predatory monetization aspects. Luckily, Diablo 4 seems to have learned some lessons from that game and every previous entry that the Diablo series has to offer.
Diablo 4 Reviews Show The Games Quality
Based on reviews and experiences, critics seem to be loving Diablo 4. With interesting and rewarding synergies between gameplay builds, and impactful and engaging hack-and-slash combat, Diablo 4 will feel right at home for any fan of the series. Additionally, thanks to the game’s new approach to online content, many new never-before-seen mechanics and experiences are now available, including World Bosses. Although some feel that changes to builds and combat make the game feel a bit simpler compared to Diablo 2, many of these adjustments help create a more universally appealing game.
Server Problems Still Plague Diablo 4
Despite everything Diablo 4 does right, the game’s release had almost equally as many problems. One of the most significant issues with the game so far is the server issues that have plagued Diablo 4 since its launch. With long-queue times, frequent crashes, and many errors that can reset queue progress, some players were fed up with the game before even getting a chance to play it. Diablo 4’s online-only mode was not featured in previous entries of the series, and developers never had to deal with these kinds of issues in the past. This left many disappointed that there isn’t any offline mode in the game to help players bypass these kinds of problems. Not only that, but it would also let players regain an experience closer to the original series.
Updates Could Save And Improve The Game
However, the benefits of an online-only game far outweigh the negatives for Diablo 4 since, unlike previous entries of the series, the game will be constantly monitored, updated, and balanced to help create an optimal experience. Although a concept like this can just as quickly ruin a game, if Diablo 4 plays its cards right, it can perfect the gameplay formula that Diablo 4 released with. Additionally, one of the first issues that Blizzard is quickly fixing is the server issues and errors that caused many fans problems at launch. Over time, these problems won’t even be an issue, and Diablo 4 may slowly become the best entry in the series.
In the end, it’s still up for debate whether or not Diablo 4 will be considered the best game, even if updates bring the game to that level. For some, a game should be initially judged on its initial release, with anything else coming after it not changing the first judgment. For example, many players refused to return to No Man’s Sky despite the game’s many updates and changes. On the opposite end of the coin, some feel as if modern games are more amorphous and changing than games of the past and should be reviewed as such. No matter what side of the argument you are on, however, Diablo 4 was a great game on launch that should only keep getting better over time. One day in the future, it may be even better than Diablo 2.
