Blizzard has finally announced a release date for the mobile game Diablo Immortal, and the best news is that it’s free-to-play. The developers also mentioned that the game will be released on PC, with an Open Beta launching when the mobile version lands on June 2nd. Players can now sign up for the Beta in preparation for that June date. Take a look below at the announcement video; it’s well worth the watch.

What are the details of Diablo Immortal?

One of the big selling points of Diablo Immortal is the fact it will feature cross-play and cross-progression between PC and Mobile. So, that means you can play with your friends on the go, and whatever progress you obtained during the PC Open Beta will carry forward on to the full release – you can now put your minds at ease. Players will also choose between six different classes: Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, Wizard, and Crusader.

The people at Blizzard have spoken about how Diablo Immortal will be an untold chapter in the Diablo saga, so, effectively a small spin-off from the main series to keep you entertained until they release the next game in the main series.

According to Blizzard’s website, the synopsis for the game is as follows, “The Archangel Tyrael is presumed dead, and mankind is left to deal with the aftermath of his actions. Fragments of the shattered Worldstone, still imbued with great power, are tainting the land. Diablo’s minions hope to harness that power to allow the Lord of Terror to return.” If you are a stranger to the Diablo series, this might sound like gibberish to you, but for all those true fans out there, this echoes the details of a very interesting little story.

Diablo Immortal was originally announced at a Blizzcon event in 2018, with the developers revealing that it was a free-to-play mobile-only version and not Diablo 4 like everyone was hoping for. That being said, Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra has high hopes for what he calls “the most expansive Diablo game that Blizzard has ever released,” as he looks forward to seeing everyone and the designated meet point back at the sanctuary.
