Aging is never fun. However, if you are Dick Van Dyke, you are doing it with alot of laughter and a little grace. Turning 100 is a big deal. It is not something many people will achieve. Never one to beat around the bush, the Mary Poppins star admits that as the big day closes in, his life and his body are beginning to undergo a lot of new changes.
Always with a smile on his face and humor in his heart, Dick Van Dyke says he is really starting to feel his age creeping up on him. He jokes that everything is going all at once, his vision, and hearing, and mostly his mobility.

He admits that he no longer has the energy to do many of the things he once did. This includes socializing away from his home and traveling. He adds that it takes more energy than he wants to use, and prefers hanging out at home, according to the National Examiner.
While he doesn’t mind having company, he reveals that most of his lifelong friends are now gone. But he jokes that he will likely be seeing them all sooner rather than later to catch up.
“My sight is so bad now that origami is out of the question. I have trouble following group conversations and complain frequently about my hearing aids. So, I am now a stooper, a shuffler, and a teeterer. I get invites to events or offers for gigs in New York or Chicago, but that kind of travel takes so much out of me that I have to say no,” he explains.
Yet he continues to treasure the meaningful connections that remain. When he experiences frustration or fatigue, he refuses to let these moments define his outlook.
The Reality of Growing Older
As previously reported to mark this incredible milestone, Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene Silver, has planned a heartfelt, private celebration at their Malibu home. Family, close friends, and a few colleagues will join to honor the actor’s extraordinary life and career. The event promises to be intimate, filled with music, laughter, and meaningful moments.
The celebration of Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday is set to be filled with everything he loves. A live band will play his favorite songs, giving him the chance to soak in the music that brings him joy. He even hopes to enjoy a few dances with his devoted wife.
Beyond the celebration, Dick Van Dyke’s career stands as a testament to his enduring talent and charm. He has not only entertained audiences worldwide. But has served as a role model, demonstrating how to face life with humor, grace, and generosity. His influence continues to inspire new generations, and his approach to aging serves as an example of embracing life fully, at any age.
