Over a decade later, Enchanted is getting a sequel. Disney released the official trailer (seen below) for Disenchanted, the Disney+ movie that follows up on the story from the 2007 film. The film will give a glimpse into what life can be like after you get distance from your happily ever after ending.
The Disenchanted trailer shows Giselle (Amy Adams) on the move with her husband, Robert (Patrick Dempsey). As she strives for a fairytale lifestyle to bring her joy, it turns dark as things don’t go as planned, so now everyone must come together to reverse the spell before midnight, or else nothing will go back to what it was before.
Disenchanted Trailer offers new look at Disney+ movie before November release
Adam Shankman (What Men Want) directed the film in collaboration with writer Brigitte Hales (Once Upon a Time). Adams and Dempsey are reuniting with James Marsden and Idina Menzel (Frozen). Newcomers include Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), and Oscar Nuñez (The Office).
It has taken a while for a sequel to Enchanted. While it received positive reviews with a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and Oscar nominations, its box office performance was not too hot. PG comedy musicals are not known for performing well, as the first film grossed $340 million on an $85 million budget. Streaming services have inspired companies to be more liberal on green-lighting films if it may not perform well commercially. Offering an original movie exclusively on Disney’s platform also strengthens itself against its competition, like it has been focusing on original films and TV shows across its various properties from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
The official trailer for Disenchanted is coming not far ahead of its upcoming release as the musical comedy hits the streaming service on November 18. The first film is currently available on Disney+ to prepare for the sequel.
