Just one month after the conclusion of Star Wars: Rebels, Disney has officially announced a follow-up to the critically acclaimed series. This new animated series will be called Star Wars: Resistance and will follow Kazuda Xiono, “a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.”
This upcoming animated show will air on “Disney Channel in the U.S. and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.”. Here is a synopsis of what we should expect to see in Star Wars: Resistance:
“Featuring the high-flying adventure that audiences of all ages have come to expect from Star Wars, Star Wars Resistance — set in the time prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens — will feature the beloved droid BB-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters and appearances by fan favorites including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.”
As you can see above, Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie will be reprising their roles. Hopefully, Resistance can handle Christie’s Phasma character better than the sequel trilogy has in the past. Co-stars joining Isaac and Christie are Donald Faison (Scrubs), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Jim Rash (Community), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), and many more that you can find out by clicking the “synopsis” link above.
Dave Filoni, animation director of Star Wars: Rebels, was the creative force behind this project. Filoni said that the idea for Resistance came from his interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots.
What do you think about this new “anime-inspired” series? Can it live up to the standards Star Wars: Rebels garnered during its run? Let us know in the comments and be sure to follow us here at The Nerd Stash for all of your nerdy news and needs!
