Disney pulled Rogue Squadron from its release calendar. Patty Jenkins was set to direct the Disney Star Wars film. It had a planned release date for December 2023 but hadn’t even started filming yet. Scheduling conflicts with Patty Jenkins caused production delays. Disney announced the release dates for the films Snow White, Inside Out 2, and The Lion King sequel. Before Disney pulled the film, Rogue Squadron was the first Star Wars film to get a theatrical release since The Rise of Skywalker. Jenkins shared the news of the film back in 2020 with excitement. The director also shared her plan of “one day making the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time” because of her father’s military service as a fighter pilot. There isn’t an official update on whether or not Jenkins will still be the director once Disney moves forward with it.
After “Wonder Woman,” Patty Jenkins Had An Easier Time Finding Gigs
Patty Jenkins received critical acclaim for her directing work for the film Wonder Woman. She was applauded for how she showed the women as warriors rather than sexualizing them. Since her work on both of the Wonder Woman movies, work has poured in for Patty Jenkins. Most recently, Jenkins was chosen as a masterclass contributor for Through Her Eyes. It’s a mentorship program through Tribeca and Chanel. It’s no small thing that the media conglomerate has wanted to work the scheduling problems with Patty Jenkins so she could direct Rogue Squadron. Disney may have pulled Rogue Squadron from its release calendar, but that doesn’t mean the project is dead. Disney has found the Star Wars films and series very lucrative. Rogue Squadron was pulled from the release calendar, but Jenkins has not been pulled as a director.
The scheduling conflicts for the Disney Star Wars film are only a temporary setback.
