The only time Nazis belong in Disney is when Indiana Jones is punching them. Unfortunately, Anaheim guests got an unwelcome dose of fascism when four Disneyland guests performed a Nazi salute. The Sieg Heiling took place on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. While other guests smiled and made peace signs, one group of riders performed the unmistakable gesture instead. This revolting public display comes not long after Elon Musk also performed a Nazi salute on stage during Trump’s inauguration. Here’s what we know about the Sieg Heil incident in Anaheim.
Disneyland Visitors Perform Sieg Heil
Like other Disneyland rides, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! automatically takes a picture of riders at a key moment, leaving park guests with a reminder of their visit. The guests who performed the Nazi salute at Disneyland turned a fun photo-op into something grotesque for everyone with the misfortune to share the ride with them. This isn’t the first time that the white supremacist gesture has snuck through, either.
Amid the storm of critiques of Musk, the accusation of Nazism is one of the most damning. That’s not only because the DOGE leader being a fascist is an obvious threat to public safety. It’s also because his actions embolden others. A Reddit post about the Nazi salute incident by u/crazyfrecs garnered over 5k likes and numerous comments condemning the Anaheim guests. As one commenter said,
It must be a permanent ban from the parks. Obviously there is an effort to normalize this and it’s working. Action has to be taken. It has to be taken seriously.
The Nazi salute or “Sieg Heil” (“Hail Victory”) was a key symbol of fascist loyalty under Hitler. It has also been widely embraced by white supremacists in general. Because of its historical ties to the Holocaust, it is an unambiguous symbol of violence and hatred. Motive doesn’t change that. Whether the Disneyland guests identify as fascists or thought the Nazi salute was somehow dark humor, the gesture isn’t acceptable. Now someone go find Indy.
