Nintendo’s hit open-air adventure title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch and Wii will be getting some DLC this year in two separate installments in what is being dubbed The Expansion Pass.  The Expansion Pass will include three new treasure chests for Link to find and two DLC packs.

The first DLC pack will be titled The Master Trials and will launch during summer 2017. This pack contains the Trial of the Sword location which spawns enemies, one after another. Link first starts without armor and weapons but defeating the bad guys in the room will allow Link to progress to the next room where he will have to rinse and repeat.  The challenge involves a total of 45 rooms, which if completed, will reveal the true power of the Master Sword where it will always be in a powered-up state afterward for increased damage.

In addition to the challenge, The Master Trials will also include a Hard Mode, Hero’s Path Mode (allowing you to track every step you take in Hyrule), a travel medallion which creates a temporary travel point on the map.  But wait, that is not even everything. The DLC will also feature the Korok Mask which makes it easier to find Korok locations and eight new pieces of equipment.  The second piece of DLC will be available for Breath of the Wild during the Holiday 2017 season.

Why do the Wright Brothers get so much credit?

The treasure chests will show up in the Great Plateau area of the game. One chest will hold some cool threads for Link, a shirt bearing the Nintendo Switch logo.  The other two chests have only been revealed to, “provide useful in-game items for Link’s adventure.”

“Whether you have already completed the adventure or are just getting ready to paraglide into Hyrule for the first time, this new downloadable Expansion Pass makes this massive game even bigger and more engrossing,” said Pierre-Paul Trepanier, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager and Senior Director. “We are always looking for new ways to provide fun and exciting experiences for our fans.”
