Destiny 2, Bungie’s game that smashes concurrent player records, has been around for several years. This first-person shooter video game became free-to-play on October 1, 2019, under the ”New Light” title, utilizing the games as a service model. The developer also adds many new things constantly, including modern features, modes, and challenges. No doubt, one of the things that players are curious about is whether the game supports cross-platform play. Now it’s time to find out if Destiny 2 is crossplay.
Destiny 2 Crossplay Explained
To give a short and clear answer to this question, yes, Destiny 2 supports cross-platform play. Bungie introduced this handy feature in 2021, allowing players to form Fireteams and play with other players across all supported platforms. It is automatically enabled for all players and does not require any changes to settings. With the launch of this feature, players will create a unique Bungie Name on their account to prepare for cross-platform play. This name will consist of the name of the first platform account players logs in with after crossplay launches and a 4-digit unique numerical identifier.
Now that we’ve learned that Destiny 2 features crossplay support, let’s take a look at the next steps. If you want to match your friends on different platforms using this feature and you don’t know how the game offers players a convenient solution for this. All you have to do here is add them to your friends list. On the Roster screen of the Director, players will be able to view the Bungie Names of other players and the platform from which they are currently accessing Destiny 2. From here, players can check out their platform friends and Bungie Friend List and can manage incoming Fireteam invites and settings. Bungie Friends appears on the Roster screen of the Director with a watermark on their emblem and can be seen together in the Bungie Friends part of the Roster screen.
There’s always a second option in Destiny 2 if you don’t want to bother with the steps above to add friends. So another way you can use to add friends for crossplay is to visit Bungie.net. Here, players can sync their existing platform friend lists to Bungie Friends. There is a detail that should not be forgotten here: To directly invite a player to become a Bungie Friend, you must search for their full Bungie Name in the Invites tab of the Roster screen or on Bungie.net. Lastly, you can have up to 200 Bungie Friends at a time.
