Being a love interest for Spider-Man is not always the most glamorous thing. Peter Parker has lost a lot of important people in his life, most infamously his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. Mary Jane Watson is the Webhead’s most famous love interest and remains his girlfriend from the original Insomniac Games Spider-Man. She survived the events of the first title without much harm, but does that mean she’ll get lucky again and make it out alive for the sequel? Does MJ die in Spider-Man 2?
Mary Jane’s Fate in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Peter and Mary Jane remain dating at the start of Spider-Man 2. Just like in the first game, there are sections of the game where you play as MJ. She remains an active supporter of the Spider-Men’s heroics. She serves as the third protagonist of the title, behind Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
However, her life is put in serious danger when Venom forcibly bonds her with a symbiote. A symbiote is an alien organism that attaches itself to a host like a suit. Mary Jane bonds with the Scream symbiote in Spider-Man 2. Scream is a villainous symbiote known for its yellow coloration and shrieking voice.
Scream takes over Mary Jane’s body, forcing Peter and Miles to fight her. Fortunately, Peter frees Mary Jane from the symbiote, saving her life. MJ does not die in the events of Spider-Man 2. In fact, Spider-Man 2 ends optimistically for Peter’s and MJ’s relationship. They end up moving into Aunt May’s house in Queens. Peter decides to step down as Spider-Man for a little while to focus on his career and relationship with MJ.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues Peter Parker’s and Miles Morales’ adventures as Spider-Man. The game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
