Billy Dee Williams is a tough act to follow. Therefore it’s important to be careful when casting Lando Calrissian. As a result, casting Donald Glover as the suave rogue is very good news. The multi award-winning actor and musician will join Alden Ehrenreich in the Han Solo spin-off movie.
Donald Glover’s Calrissian will be from an earlier part of the character’s life. Lando, in this appearance, is still just a rising name in the galactic underworld. Set well before the original trilogy, this will presumably let us see Han win the Falcon from Lando.
Star Wars.com announced the director’s pleasure at Glover’s selection.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
Donald Glover has made a name for himself in recent years. First of all, he created and acted in Atlanta. This series holds the record for highest basic cable premiere numbers since 2013. He starred in four seasons of the show Community. He has a grammy-nominated album called Because the Internet and had a major role in The Martian. He’s also set to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The still untitled Han Solo spin-off is the second of Disney’s planned Star Wars ‘anthology’ movies, while the first is Rogue One. The anthology movies are separate from the main ‘numbered’ Star Wars movies. The point of them is to flesh out the Star Wars galaxy and its history.
The Han Solo spin-off arrives in cinemas in 2018.
