“The circus has arrived,” one commenter puts it regarding Donald Trump’s puzzling decision to appoint his son’s seemingly now-former fiancee, Kimberly Guilfoyle, as the US Ambassador to Greece. Posting to Truth Social, the President-elect says that “Kimberly has been a close friend and ally,” making her “perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece.”
Guilfoyle has been dating Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., since 2018, and the two became engaged in 2020. However, Trump’s nominee decision has surprised many, seeing how Don Jr. and Kimberly reportedly aren’t together anymore.
In broad daylight, Don Jr. surprised the Internet by strolling about hand-in-hand with his new socialite girlfriend, Bettina Anderson. Per Daily Mail, the two were spotted spending hours together in Palm Beach, FL, being “totally smitten with each other” on a cozy dinner date. The revelation might come as a big shock for many, but actually, “Don and Kimberly haven’t been getting along over the past year,” an insider tells Page Six. Not to mention, the President-elect’s son had been allegedly “unfaithful in his marriage” before his silent breakup with Guilfoyle occurred.
There’s little doubt that Donald Trump doesn’t know about his eldest son’s decision to get with another girl, which has led many to believe his appointing Guilfoyle to Greece is a ‘peaceful send-off’ of sorts. “Gotta give her a decent, but remote post now that Don Jr. has broken off the engagement,” says a Reddit user commenting on the situation. Another chimes in with, “Lol, Donald never liked Ms. Gargoyle. Junior no longer wants her, so Dad is sending her to Greece. Nice!“
While many are ridiculing the fact that Kimberly is being ‘soft-banished’ from Trump’s family to Greece, others see her as a “troll nominee,” along with the rest of the “circus cacophony” that Donald has chosen as other US Ambassadors. “What did Greece ever do to deserve this?” one commenter comically ponders. Others question her qualifications:
“Completely unqualified. They complained about Hunter using his connections, if she wasn’t engaged to Jr she wouldn’t even be near that list of candidates to be an ambassador. He wants the best people for the job? He isn’t proving it with this pick.”
Taking to X, Kimberly Guilfoyle has responded to the decision, claiming she feels “honored to accept President Trump’s nomination.” However, nowhere in sight do we see any mention of Don Jr. or anything to do with their past relationship. Nonetheless, Trump’s son probably no longer cares for Kimberly, as reports of him and Bettina Anderson go back to August of this year. Their interactions at the time involved smooching and thigh-rubbing, two clear indications that something romantic was indeed going on.
That said, Trump’s decision to pick his son’s fiancee — or alleged ex — as the United States Ambassador to Greece is quite bewildering to many. Nevertheless, it makes a little sense if viewed from the angle that he’s giving her a generous ‘breakup send-off.’ If the Senate agrees, Greece will hopefully appreciate its new Ambassador for the next few years.
