Donald Trump has unveiled his unique foreign policy plans before he enters office, and his first act of power is a puzzling name change.
On Tuesday, during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, the president-elect expressed his desire to rename the Gulf of Mexico. “We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America,” he told reporters. “Which has a beautiful ring. That covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America, what a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate. It’s appropriate.” Trump didn’t explain the reasoning behind his decision. However, he shared his feelings about Mexico, calling it a “very dangerous place” that is “essentially run by the cartels.”
He added that Mexico is “really in trouble” and warned the country to “stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country.” The portion of the Atlantic Ocean bordered by U.S. states Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and Texas, as well as Mexico and Cuba is called the Gulf of Mexico. It is not owned by any particular country.
Trump’s bizarre announcement has since received support from Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who took to X to endorse the plan.
“President Trump’s second term is off to a GREAT start. I’ll be introducing legislation ASAP to officially change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to its rightful name, the Gulf of America!”
From the days of his campaign, Trump has been vocal about his plan to implement strict immigration policies against Canada and Mexico. He has threatened to impose tariffs on both neighboring countries before his inauguration.
Donald Trump Also Wants Canada To Be The 51st US State
Trump’s name change proposition follows his long running joke of making Canada an additional US state. Just yesterday, Justin Trudeau announced his decision to resign as Prime Minister and party leader. It believed that Trump’s threat of a 25% increase in tariffs on Canadian goods largely influenced Trudeau’s departure from office.
Following the news of his resignation, Trump took to Truth Social to further push his agenda. “Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State,” he sarcastically wrote, before adding:
“If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be.”
Trump has yet to unveil an official plan to achieve his desire for US expansion. However, the newly introduced name change fuels fears he might actually go through with it.
“This man wants to eradicate anything that isn’t white America,” one online user lamented.
With Donald Trump already making huge changes before stepping into office, the next four years are bound to shake things up beyond recognition.
