Many Like a Dragon/Yakuza fans will remember the new game plus mode debacle that came with Infinite Wealth. This mode, which all games of the series feature for free, was behind a paid DLC. Fortunately, RGG has made amends and announced that Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will have a new game plus mode for free. However, it will come after launch in another update. Many might still not like that idea, but with all the things coming to Majima’s adventure, you’ll spend dozens of hours in one playthrough before starting a new one.
This news comes from the RGG Like a Dragon Direct of January 9, 2025. The showcase began with a lengthy look at some of the game’s mechanics. We got a deeper look at the two combat styles, a few heat actions, and even some of the creatures you’ll be able to summon during a fight. Then, we looked at the actual pirate-oriented gameplay, which is as deep as you can imagine. You’ll be able to customize your ship with different colors, sails, and even weapons. Regarding your crew, you can also train them and increase their stats to help you during combat. We also saw how the ship combat looks and even a better look at the boarding mechanics.
Still, the pleasant surprise about this is that the RGG Direct also unveiled the free new game plus mode of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which made many fans in the chat extremely happy.
Right now, it is uncertain when this free update will arrive. But as we said before, there will be so many things to do in the game that you won’t have to worry about a second playthrough soon. All in all, it is nice to see the studio and publishers listening to player feedback. The Like a Dragon series is loved by many, and despite the NG+ situation in Infinite Wealth, the game holds a Very Positive review score on Steam. With this approach to Pirate Yakuza, we can only hope for Majima’s voyage to reach even greater heights.
