With a new month upon us, so are new releases for gaming. With the much anticipated seasonal sales, many companies are looking to embolden their streaming collections. In most recent history, Microsoft has been at the forefront of offering a large selection of titles for a reasonable monthly fee. Achievable thanks to their collected studios and trusted partners, the robust selection in Xbox Game Pass cannot be understated. In a 7.5 billion deal, Xbox was able to acquire iD Software amongst several other subsidiary studios this past September. Now with Bethesda and Zenimax owned by Xbox, it seems that we will start to see more of their releases coincide on their platforms. The first in this new wave is of course the 2020 release, Doom Eternal, set to launch on the service later this week.

While the title has been on Xbox One for some time, Doom Eternal is finally coming to PC as well on the launch date of December 3. Bringing over the decorated releases from Bethesda’s properties is of course a brilliant move. Since the sale, the logistics of how future releases will be handled for multiplatform games is still very unclear. Xbox seems confident in ensuring their subscribers with a large library available on day one like PC. This is of course like many other acquisitions Microsoft has made in the past such as the 2.5 billion deal for Mojang in 2014. Now buying a studio for three times the value in 2020 is a surprise move but not unforeseen. As Microsoft continues to grow, so do their aspirations for a future gaming market to dominate in the area of convenience for players. It’s part of the exact reason why consoles are becoming on par with most PC builds and why Microsoft is leaning heavily into both markets substantially.
