Sarah Ferguson became a fifth-time grandma following the birth of her daughter Princess Beatrice’s baby Athena months earlier than expected. Sarah’s daughter Princess Beatrice welcomed a new addition into the royal fold on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, with Buckingham Palace announcing the baby’s arrival via a social media post about a week later. Royal fans were quick to raise concerns about the baby’s size and health, observing she looked “so tiny,” perhaps a result of her early birth. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Beatrice’s husband quickly stepped in to defend his daughter, acknowledging the newborn was in perfect health regardless of her frail body.

Notably, the new bundle of joy arrived months earlier than the originally anticipated birth, weighing only 4 pounds and 5 ounces at birth. While Edoardo has proven to be a dependable pillar of support for the new mom, it couldn’t hurt to have another hand on ground. Thankfully, the doting grandmother, who her grandkids fondly call “Gi Gi” is on hand to help out when the need arises. According to Hello! the proud grandma Sarah Ferguson might have to relocate to Princess Eugenie’s home to help her navigate her post-partum journey.

Princess Beatrice Could Do With Mom’s Help Following Early Birth

Sarah, who shares her two children with disgraced Prince Andrew, continues to live in the disputed Royal Lodge with the controversial prince despite the drama. While Andrew may have restricted contact with his daughter as he continues to keep a low profile to fix his damaging reputation, Sarah Ferguson could bid farewell to the dilapidated conditions in the Royal Lodge, and move into Princess Beatrice’s sprawling ยฃ3m Cotswolds home to be closer to her grandkids.

The Duchess of York celebrated the arrival of her newest grandbaby earlier, sharing a baby photo of the newborn initially posted on Edoardo’s page. The photo featured the new baby curled up in a pink blanket, wearing a white onesie, with one of her tiny hands concealing her face. She captioned the post with a note of excitement writing,

“Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world. She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a granny once again. So proud of Edo, eatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team.”

Sarah Ferguson is already grandmother to five children, including Princess Beatrice’s daughters Athena and Sienna, Eugenie’s kids August and George, and Beatrice’s 8-year-old stepson Christopher Woolf. Notably, the Duchess of York has a close-knit relationship with her grandchildren, swooping in to perform grandma duties on occasions for her two daughters whenever necessary. With Athena newly joining the family, an unchecked dose of love and affection from her doting grandma is just right.
