Dragon Quest Heroes II, unlike its predecessor, seemingly features an overworld or at least larger and more open battlefields. Travel and exploration are closely reminiscent of Dragon Quest VII, which featured a wide, huge world with very few obstructions. Combat remains largely unchanged from Heroes, occurring in real-time rather than being turn-based as players encounter monsters on the map, allowing them to avoid battles they don’t wish to fight.

The latest Dragon Quest Titles to be released stateside were a 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VIII and the first Heroes game for Playstation systems and Windows. While Heroes did not enjoy booming sales, largely due to lack of marketing and the shame of not being a mainstream title, it received high praise from those who purchased and played it.
With Dragon Quest VII coming to the U.S. on 3DS soon and the possibility of receiving Dragon Quest Heroes II as well, western fans may have the opportunity to finally make their voices heard by Square Enix about continuing to localize the main series, particularly DQX and DQXI.
