After Sven has proven himself to be a valuable ally, he will often give you tasks related to conspiracies surrounding the politics of Vermund. However, while interesting, players have been found scratching their heads when trying to access these politically charged missions. Considering sometimes, the objectives for the quest involving the consul candidate will not be marked on the map. That’s why starting the “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds” quest can be a bit confusing, but that’s just how Dragon’s Dogma 2 rolls.

How To Start “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds” Quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Before you can tackle this quest, you need to complete the “Feast of Deception” main quest and “Masked Correspondence” side quest. You’ll need the Beastren Border Entry Permit from the main quest since we’ll be heading into Battahl, the beastren kingdom.

Afterward, skip one in-game day and speak to Sven in his chamber on Venworth Castle’s second floor. It’s the same place as the Torn Letter location for the “Disa’s Plot” quest. If you spend some time away, though, you’ll eventually be stopped by someone saying Sven wants to meet. Speak to him to start the “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds” quest.

Sven’s been sniffing around and found an unfinished letter from her mom, and he needs your help to investigate it. Apparently, the letter is addressed to Lord Phaesus, and he is often found at the Flamebearer Palace’s Forbidden Magick Research Lab in Bakbattahl. You can go there through Checkpoint Rest Town; quickly travel to the town by hopping on to the 200 Gold Oxcart at Vermund’s North-Western exit.

But, if you’re playing as a human, there’s another precaution you should take for “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds”! You’re only “welcomed” if you disguise yourself as a beastren. Shell out 8,700 Gold for a Beastren Mask from Ibrahim’s Scrap Store then equip it before you go.

Cross the Battahl-Vermund border by handing over the Border Entry Permit to the guard then ride on the Oxcart just opposite the entrance. Afterward, run past the Residential Ward and go outside Bakbattahl using the east exit. While you’re at it though, you might want to drop a Portcrystal for easier fast travel next time.

The Forbidden Magick Research Lab should be easily found near the town’s exit. Get inside during the day so the guards won’t give you much trouble. Lurk around the building until you trigger a cutscene near the dead dragon’s statue. It will show two mysterious people, Jerome and Yglie, discussing a Letter to Lord Phaesus. That should be the key to the “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds” quest.

The letter can be found inside Laboratorium – Workshop #2 room, which is next to the dragon statue. Take the Letter to Lord Phaesus quest item on the desk and report back to Venworth Castle.

Give the letter to Sven and you’ll learn interesting details regarding Disa’s schemes. For that trouble, you’ll be rewarded with 4,000 XP, 20,000 Gold, and a Ferrystone.

To recap, here’s how you start and complete Dragon’s Dogma 2 “A Veil of Gossamer Clouds” quest:

  1. Talk with Sven at Venworth Castle.
  2. Get inside the Forbidden Magick Research Lab in Bakbattahl.
    • Buy a Beastren Mask from Ibrahim’s Scrap Store first if you’re a human.
  3. Grab the Letter to Lord Phaesus.
  4. Bring it back to Sven.
