Equipment enhancement or Enhance Equipment in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be an expensive affair, especially once the blacksmiths start asking for monster parts you didn’t even know those monsters had. It’s easy to mess up even your late-game items by going to the wrong blacksmith to enhance your weapons or armor. As it turns out, it matters where you enhance your equipment in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Here’s what you need to know about enhancement in DD2.

You might notice that blacksmiths in Battahl and blacksmiths in Vermund have different enhancement insignias for your weapons and armor. The game does note it, but the explanation is at an odd place in the top-right corner of the enhancement UI.

The equipment enhancement requirements also change depending on the kingdom. In summary, here’s what each kingdom’s blacksmith does for your weapons and armor:

  • Vermund blacksmiths prioritize a balanced stat distribution for Strength, Magick, Defence, & Magick Defence.
  • Battahl blacksmiths prioritize Strength and Defence.
  • Sacred Arbor or Elven blacksmiths prioritize Magick and Magick Defence.

If you’re the min-maxing type, then you might want to hold off on enhancements until you can get to Battahl or Sacred Arbor. However, the Vermund enhancement still gets the job done if you’re not worried about specialization or maximizing damage outputs.

Pure Warriors, Fighters, Rangers, and Thieves will want to enhance their late-game items in Battahl, however. Meanwhile, Mages, Sorcerers, Tricksters, and Magick Archers will want to look for Sacred Arbor for their enhancements.

Vermund and Battahl are easy enough to find as they’re both part of the main quest. You’ll eventually stumble upon them, Vermund especially.

Still, if you want to unlock Battahl blacksmiths early, specifically the capital that houses its shops, Bakbattahl, here’s its location:

You can sneak into a fancy oxcart past the border guards in Checkpoint Rest Town to get to Battahl early on. The region can be difficult to traverse, though, so make sure you’re prepared.

As for Sacred Arbor, it’s a hidden Elven settlement somewhere northwest of Vernworth in Vermund. Here’s Sacred Arbor’s location:

Bear in mind that you’re going to need a Pawn with the Woodland Wordsmith to translate Elvish. Luckily, there’s no shortage of Pawns introducing their bilingual specializations along the road. You can also check for the Woodland Wordsmith specializations in the Riftstone. Otherwise, you might feel a little lost in Sacred Arbor, especially when looking at enhancement requirements.
