Drake may have lost the diss battle against Kendrick Lamar; however, his fanbase survived their rap feud. The Hotline Bling hitmaker’s admirers recently assured him of their loyalties, flooding his post with their love and praises. The Instagram update seemed to be the rapper’s response to his rival’s historic Super Bowl performance on Sunday night.
During the halftime show, Lamar performed his viral Not Like Us track and had the whole stadium dissing Drake. However, in his post, the latter proved he was unbothered by the event, and so were his fans. He shared pictures of himself performing before a massive crowd, showcasing the love many had for his music.
The photodump included a close-up shot of Drake’s massive OVO owl chain. The jewelry reportedly features over 100 carats of Asscher cut diamonds and was designed by Jason Arasheben. The acronym represented the Hip-hop star’s label and stood for “October’s Very Own,” Drake’s birth month. As for why he included the chain in the post, Lamar might be to blame.
Drake’s OVO owl chain could be his response to Lamar rocking an “A” chain during his Super Bowl performance. Internet sleuths deduced the jewelry referenced the “A minor” lyric from his diss track, but Lamar has not confirmed this. However, the Like That rapper was not above throwing shade at Drake and even performed with his past flames.
The drama began when Drake ranted about exes during a performance in Australia on Sunday. He asked those who got played or wasted their energy on a former lover to resonate with his music. “This is to all of your exes that thought they could play you in their f–king life,” he said. Hours later, Lamar responded by inviting his rival’s exes Serena Williams and SZA to the halftime show, per The Sun.
Fans Hail Drake as ‘Undefeated’ Following Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Performance
Drake captioned his recent Instagram post, “$$$inema,” presumably referencing him being booked and busy despite the rap feud outcome. Fans showed their support by flooding the post with over a million likes and multiple sweet comments. One IG user implied the rapper did not lose to Lamar’s recent performance, writing, “BIGGER THAN THE SUPERBOWL.”
Another shared the same view, claiming Drake was “really undefeated like Khabib.” A third hailed him as “undefeated” and “undisputed,” while a fourth noted he was “the boy.” The love for Drake continued with praises like “The GOAT” and declarations that the rapper was “still on top.” The positivity comes weeks after many expressed disappointment about Drake’s lawsuit over Lamar’s diss track.
We covered the drama in January, revealing Drake had sued his record label, Universal Music Group, for defamation. This marked his second legal case against the company, as he initially accused them of intentionally promoting Lamar’s song. He filed his allegations against UMG in a NYC state court last year but dropped the lawsuit for a federal case.
In his new suit, Drake slammed UMG for using Lamar’s diss track to undermine his career. He claimed the label spread the false pedophile narrative so they could have the upper hand in future contract negotiations. However, critics booed him for not knowing Lamar’s Compton origins and mistaking it for Tupac’s Oakland hometown. The mistake in the lawsuit read:
“Later, the Recording threatens that if Drake comes to Oakland, where Lamar grew up, he will not make it out alive: ‘I think that Oakland show gon’ be your last stop.'”
Will Drake and Kendrick Lamar continue to butt heads, or is their rap feud officially over?
