In San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district, activism is as common as coffee shops. But one drunk man, who was dubbed a “tacoflake” by Reddit, clearly wasn’t in the spirit of the area as he was sent into a full-scale meltdown when a protester’s sign was blown into his leg by the wind.
The California protest, dubbed the “No Kings” demonstration, focused on holding billionaires accountable through increased taxation. It had been wrapping up peacefully as protestors posed for photos with signs reading slogans like “Tax the Rich.” Then, a gust of wind! The sign, caught momentarily in the breeze, tapped the leg of a man exiting a nearby bar. That light contact set off nearly two minutes of confusion, shouting, and escalating nonsense.
“WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE?” the man shrieked, voice cracking to comic effect. Witnesses said he seemed to think the protest was about immigration, not billionaires, and began ranting about undocumented people “taking over” before anyone had mentioned immigration at all.
Ironically, the man was wearing a Chelsea FC shirt with “Drogba” on the back. Didier Drogba, for those unfamiliar, is an Ivorian immigrant and a beloved football legend, known as much for his humanitarian work as for his time on the pitch. Drogba helped stop a civil war in his home country and later served in multiple ambassadorial roles for the UN.
The video shows the man wildly projecting onto the quiet protestors. At one point, he complains, “You guys have no argument so all you wanna do is ask me what I do,” just after he had asked them the exact same question several times.
Online reactions poured in. One Redditor joked, “He took a 200 gram paper sign to the shin and nobody even asked if he was okay.” Another chimed in, “WON’T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE POOR BILLIONAIRES,” in reference to his oddly intense defense of the ultra-wealthy. The most brutal blow came from someone who claimed to know him personally: “Can confirm, unfortunately I know this guy. He’s a true idiot.”
Some speculated he was drunk, others weren’t as forgiving. As one commenter put it, “Booze doesn’t make you an asshole. It just reveals who you already are.”
The location of the incident only added to the irony. Haight-Ashbury is one of the most historically protest-heavy areas in the country, known for its legacy of civil disobedience, countercultural movements, and speaking truth to power. A few locals pointed out the obvious: if you can’t handle protest signs, it might not be the best neighborhood to grab a drink.
Adding insult to injury for any actual Chelsea fans, several pointed out that the shirt he was wearing wasn’t even from Drogba’s era. One commenter said, “He defiles that kit completely.” Another added, “Drogba never played in that Autoglass shirt, man’s just out here spreading ignorance in retro polyester.”
By the end of the video, the man had gone from belligerent to near tears, with his voice cracking into squeaky territory as he stormed off. “He’s almost crying at the end. 😂😂,” noted. Indeed. What a clown.
