Last week, the social media accounts for Duke Nukem reawakened for the first time since the release of Duke Nukem Forever. The official website contained only a “Happy 20th Anniversary” banner and a countdown clock. The countdown is up, and Gearbox Studios has announced Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour to celebrate.
This new iteration of Duke Nukem 3D contains the entire original game, its first expansion, and a new, eight level episode that stretches across many worldwide locales. These can be played with the original graphics or in a new, true 3D version. For this revamp/rerelease, Gearbox has also brought back some of the original creators to help create new content. Allen Blum III and Richard “LEVELORD” Gray return to the series to bring life to the levels of the new episode. Lee Jackson, who composed music for the original, is returning. Finally, it just would not be Duke Nukem 3D without Duke’s one-liners. The man himself, Jon St. Jon, made his way back into the studio to record some new lines for the character.
Duke Nukem 3D: World Tour also contains the option to listen to developer commentary as you play through the game. It looks like Gearbox is treating this one with some love, and is a solid pickup at $19.99 for anyone looking to relive a nostalgic, alien slaughtering FPS. Or use it to show these new gamers what an old FPS is all about. No wall running. No diving out of airplanes. And certainly no class-swapping (since we know that Duke Nukem has no class at all). Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour releases on October 11th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out the incredibly cheesy teaser trailer below:
