Aether Studios has officially released a brand new trailer for Dungeons of Aether, their upcoming spin-off of the popular Rivals of Aether fighting game series. First teased during a developer preview back in April 2021, this new Dungeons of Aether trailer overviewed the story, characters, and mechanics of the series’ newest spin-off and presented a release date of October 25, 2022, on Steam. The game will feature the same beautiful pixel art and animations of the original Rivals of Aether. It will have players take control of four heroes who seek to discover the mysteries of the Julesvale Caverns.
What is Dungeons of Aether?
Dungeons of Aether is a dungeon-crawling RPG from Dan Furnace, the developer of Rivals of Aether, and is among the series’ many spin-offs. Rivals of Aether is a 2D fighting game set in a fantasy world featuring a variety of magical and powerful characters, akin to Super Smash Bros. Still, it has spawned a variety of branching titles set in its world that lean into different genres. The Dungeons of Aether trailer showcases the RPG mechanics of the game.
“Delve into Dungeons of Aether, a turn-based dungeon crawler set in the Rivals of Aether universe. Control four new heroes as they uncover the mysteries of the Julesvale Caverns in Story Mode or test your mettle in the grueling Challenge Dungeons”, the official description by Dan Furnace and Aether Studios.
Dungeons of Aether will feature turn-based combat with a dice draft system to ensure every battle is unique and challenging, and players will need to adapt to a new pool of dice each turn to stay in the game. It will include both a Challenge Dungeons mode, where players can test their skills in randomly generated dungeons with unique rules and equipment, as well as the Story Mode, which follows the tale of four main characters.
These are Fleet, the self-proclaimed protector of her hometown of Julesvale; Hamir, a former Wall Runner from the mighty Rock Wall; Slade, a pirate from the far-off Polekai Islands; and Artemis, a renowned general in the Fire Mora who once fought alongside Zetterburn, a popular fighter from the original Rivals of Aether.
Alongside Dungeons of Aether, Aether Studios also announced an official sequel to Rivals of Aether itself earlier today, although an official release date for that title had not been specified. It will release sometime in 2024.
