Sony showed off nearly seven minutes of its highly anticipated title, Days Gone at its E3 conference. In a good mix between intense hand-to-hand combat and calculated stealth, players got more of a feel for protagonist Deacon St. John than what we have previously seen.

Between the Days Gone reveal at E3 last year and the gameplay that released in the later half of 2016, we have had a solid look at SIE Bend Studio’s upcoming title. Sony took the opportunity at E3 this year to show off more of the human dangers Deacon will face in Days Gone, all the while showing how he cleverly uses the environment to his advantage; and, yes, we got an even better look at the undead antagonists known as Freakers.

Days Gone

In the new gameplay reveal, Deacon gets into altercation with human enemies and takes them down without mercy. He travels to established camps and draws away several enemies’ attention with the use of one, simple trap. From what we have seen of Deacon already, we know he’s more than capable of handling himself and getting out of tough situations.

Speaking of tough situations…a consistent element of the game seems to be large hordes of Freakers trying to attack Deacon at once, and they all move like they were track stars in their livelier days. Puns aside, it’s in these situations where Days Gone really shows its strengths in terms of strategy and stealth. Methods of distraction are a popular way to divert the attention of both the living and the undead.

The gameplay culminates in a showdown, in which we get a bit more of Deacon’s personality (he’s a smooth talker and quick shooter) during a standoff. The latest footage from Days Gone has us looking forward to this PS4 exclusive even more.
