Recent leaks through the Giant Bomb podcast suggested that EA Motive was secretly working on a Dead Space 2 Remake, but that it was then canceled. These claims were quickly shot down by EA, stating that these claims were completely fabricated. But according to a new report (via Bloomberg), it seems EA Motive did want to make a sequel in the Dead Space franchise, not another remake.
Before you get excited, that Dead Space sequel and the Dead Space 2 Remake will never come to pass because the internal pitches were denied by EA, mainly because the recent game fell well below expectations. While the Dead Space Remake was critically a success, and everyone who played it sang praises, it was commercially very disappointing. And that was enough of a market test to determine that the Dead Space franchise didn’t have the interest to merit another remake, let alone a full-on sequel.
Dead Space Sequel or Remake Are No Longer Happening
This means that the Dead Space franchise has been put on ice for the foreseeable future, and even though the series had some potential projects on the table, none of them ever got the green light. This is in line with the leaks that suggested that the Dead Space 2 Remake was canned internally.
Going forward, EA Motive is going to focus more on the upcoming Battlefield game in a supportive capacity. Motive isn’t the only EA studio that is being moved to assist in developing the next Battlefield game, as Criterion Games, known for Need For Speed, and Ripple Effect, known for the Medal of Honor series, are also working on creating a new “Battlefield Universe”.
But more importantly to most, Motive is still hard at work on the Iron Man project. Although it hasn’t been revealed yet, the team has provided steady updates and claims to have hit a major internal milestone with the project that they’re proud of.
