After the surprise Metal Gear PC re-release, today during the Tokyo Game Show 2020, Konami also had an announcement for anime and manga fans. They announced that they are working on two different games based on the Edens Zero series for console and mobile. The Edens Zero games will be a third-person action RPG for consoles and a top-down action RPG for mobile. Konami hasn’t said anything about console platforms and release dates, though. You can watch the game project’s teaser trailer below.

Edens Zerois a science-fiction manga series first released in 2018 in Japan by Hiro Mashima, the same creator as the popular fantasy-themed Fairy Tail and Rave Master series. It tells the story of a super-powered human named Shiki Granbell, a “futuristic YouTuber” Rebecca Bluegarden, and a cybernetic cat Happy in search of a fabled space goddess people call “Mother”. They navigate through the stars using the titular interstellar warship, Edens Zero.

Usually, most anime-adaptation games like this are handled by Bandai Namco, but the Edens Zero games are an exception. It won’t come as a big surprise for die-hard Mashima fans though since Rave Master games in the early 2000s were also made by Konami. While Koei Tecmo made the recently released Fairy Tail RPG. Either Konami has a good relationship with the manga publisher Kodansha or Mashima likes to work with them. Besides the two new games, the Tokyo Game Show 2020 stream also announced information regarding the upcoming Edens Zero anime including its voice casts. Obviously, they will reprise their roles in the games as well:

  • The anime will start airing in April 2021 in Japan.
  • Shiki Granbell will be voiced by Takuma Terashima (Touma Amagase, The iDOLM@STER; Otoya Ittoki, Uta no Prince-sama).
  • Rebecca Bluegarden will be voiced by Mikako Komatsu (Seishirou Tsumugi, Nisekoi; Sei Iori, Gundam Build Fighter).
  • Happy will be voiced again by Rie Kugimiya, who previously voiced the same character in the Fairy Tail anime series.

What are you hoping for with the Edens Zero games? Tell me all about it in the comments below.
