Midgar Studio gives us a taste of the legendary composer’s work on the upcoming JRPG, Edge of Eternity
After a successful Kickstarter last year, Midgar Studio was pleased to announce it had added the legendary video game composer, Yasunori Mitsuda to its team for the upcoming JRPG, Edge of Eternity. Mitsuda is known for his work on the soundtracks to the games Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Soul Sacrifice and many others.
In March of last year, the prolific Japanese composer teamed up with Cedric Menendez, the sound designer on the team, and together they began recording with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. Midgar Studio has just unveiled a short making-of video that shows the artists at work. The video also offers a taste of the upcoming soundtrack, with many original tracks composed by Mitsuda. We think it sounds amazing. Check it out below.

In addition to this news, Midgar Studio also released a large number of screenshots from the most recent build of the game. They also dropped a new video showing off the game’s battle system. The system promises to be “a mix of ATB dynamic turn-based combat, strategic position, and amazing magic!”.
Yasunori Mitsuda is one of our favorite composers, (The Chrono Cross soundtrack might be the greatest soundtrack in the history of video games) so this is very exciting news. Edge of Eternity will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game looks to pay tribute to the JRPG classics of the past in a modern and stunning way.
