The world of Elden Ring has many different NPCs that you can come across, some of which can be very impactful to the future of the Lands. Between that, completing their quests can net you entirely different endings. Thops’ quest is not one of those side quests, but he can still net you a good staff and spell for those who prefer to strike with magic rather than a sword and shield. The quest is also not that long or complex, taking place mainly in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. This guide will explain how to do Sorcerer Thops’ Questline in Elden Ring.

How To Complete The Thops Questline In Elden Ring

To begin Thops questline, you will first need to meet him just beyond Limgrave. You will find the dejected sorcerer at the Church of Irith past Stormveil Castle near the cliffside overlooking Liurnia of the Lake. Talking to him will reveal that he wants to continue his learning of Glintstone magic at the Academy of Raya Lucaria. The school is locked, however, and can only be entered if the individual has a Glintstone Key. Make sure to select the prompt “About the Glintstone Key,” and you will be tasked with finding one for him. You will find one yourself to enter the school, and if you try to give the Key to Thops, he will reject it because he knows that you need it more than him. This means you have to find an extra Glintstone Key, which can be found in the Academy.

You will find this extra Key in the Academy in the area beyond the Red Wolf of Radagon boss fight. Once past the boss arena, go to the left and find the crumbling set of stairs. Go up another flight of stairs past some praying enemies and up towards two spellcasters; go to the left of this and jump over the railing to the floor below. Continue straight and go left, then jump over another stone railing to start traversing rooftops. Get past the enemies here and climb the ladder on the right. You will come up onto a balcony with several small enemies and a spellcaster. Get past them and jump down onto the roofs to the right. From here, you should be able to see the Church of Cuckoo, where the Glinstone Key is found. Jump to the tower pictured in the middle image below and then jump to the church. Go to the right, and you will find some open windows. Enter the first one to get into the rafters of the building. Below, you will see a corpse on the closest chandelier. That is the Glinstone Key.

Return the Glintstone Key to Thops to continue his questline. He will thank you for the help and tell you to visit him if you ever need more help with your sorcery. You can then return to the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace to finish the questline. Instead of heading into the school towards the Red Wolf arena, turn around back towards the waterfall. You will find Thops’ corpse slumped in a chair just out the door to the right. You can pick up his Bell Bearing as well as an Academy Glintstone Staff and the Thops’ Barrier spell.
