Several different effects can be put on your character while you explore the world of Elden Ring. You might notice after a certain point that there is a little icon beneath your health bar that is a red square with an arrow pointing down. This means that you have a debuff that has permanently lowered your max HP. Many players have experienced this and can’t seem to fix it or how it happened in the first place. Luckily, we have found the culprit, and it turns out that the process of removing this debuff isn’t too complicated once you know how and why it is there. This guide will explain how to remove the HP Down Debuff in Elden Ring.

(Updated on August 8, 2024 – Fact-checked, clarified guide’s steps, updated links and formatting).

How To Remove The HP Down Debuff In Elden Ring

The source of this HP Down debuff is Fia, the Deathbed Companion. She is one of the many NPCs that you can meet inside the Roundtable Hold and offers you one of the most valuable things that you can be offered at the end of the world: a hug. Hugging Fia will give you an item called the Baldachin’s Blessing, an item that can be used to increase the player’s poise for a short period of time.

This is also the reason that you have the HP debuff. As long as you have this item in your inventory, you will have the HP debuff. To remove the debuff, simply use the item and wait for the effect to wear off. If you are willing to sacrifice some health in order to get some extra poise, you can get a new Blessing by interacting with Fia again.
