Oh look, it’s another Elden Ring questline as evasive and as cryptic as its bosses. Needless to say, you might mess up the Millicent questline before you even know it, so we’re here to shine the light through the path and to ensure you don’t spend millenniums in Millicent’s militant missions, though your mileage might vary. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can easily complete Millicent’s quest in Elden Ring.
How To Start the Millicent Questline
Head on over to Australia Caelid and keep following the road until you see a rundown shack populated by an old sorcerer who has seen better days. His name is Gowry.
Gowry will also beg of you to help his “daughter” Millicent because she has an affliction (Who doesn’t in Caelid?). To progress this stage, you need to find the Unalloyed Golden Needle in the Scarlet Rot swamp right in the middle of Caelid.
Finding the Unalloyed Golden Needle
Check the image above for the location of the Unalloyed Golden Needle. You can only get it from a boss fight, dropped by Commander O’Neil.
To defeat this boss, you need to focus on him while evading his minions. Use hit-and-run tactics. He is also weak to parry attacks. You should be safe as long as you evade most of his well-telegraphed moves. You can also use Torrent in the fight.
Once you have the Unalloyed Golden Needle after defeating Commander O’Neil, go back to Gowry’s Shack and talk to him. He’ll repair the needle, and he’ll also give you some tips on how to unlock the Sellia door, which blocks the way to the Church of the Plague, where Millicent is located.
You will need to give Gowry some time to repair the needle. After delivering the needle to him, rest in any Site of Grace and go back to Gowry, then take the Unalloyed Golden Needle to Millicent.
Find Millicent in the Church
Make sure to read Gowry’s hints on how to open Sellia’s magic seal. It involves lighting up three beacons in Sellia.
Once you’ve lit the beacons, just follow the road up to the hill and find the Church of the Plague (detailed in the image above). Here’s a step-by-step process on how to talk to Millicent:
- Talk to Millicent. Give her the Unalloyed Golden Needle.
- She’ll faint after the dialogue. Rest in the nearby Grace.
- After resting, talk to Millicent again.
- After talking to Millicent, rest at the nearby Grace again and ensure that Millicent leaves the church.
- Go back to Gowry’s Shack and find Millicent, talk to her.
- After talking to Millicent in Gowry’s Shack, leave and rest at any Grace, then return to the shack.
- Talk to Gowry and exhaust all the dialogue options.
After this point, you’ll find Millicent in different locations.
Finding Millicent All Over the Lands Between
Millicent’s next location will be in the Altus Plateau, and she will appear in two places there. However, there are conditions and triggers that need to be met before she appears.
We’ll detail them per location, as some of them might require you to defeat certain bosses.
North of the Erdtree-Gazing Hill, Altus Plateau
For this one, you don’t need to do anything other than unlocking Altus Plateau. Once you’ve touched the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Site of Grace, head north near the ruins.
You’ll find Millicent standing there just outside of the ruins. Talk to her and exhaust all the dialogue.
At the Windmill Heights Grace, After the Boss Fight
At some point in your Altus Plateau escapades, you’ll come across the Windmill Village, which is due north of the Altus Plateau.
- Once you get there, touch the Windmill Village Site of Grace and proceed to the top of the Windmill Village.
- Defeat the Godskin Apostle boss.
- Touch the Windmill Heights Grace and rest.
- After resting, Millicent should be there near the Grace. Talk to her and exhaust all dialogue options.
Ancient Snow Valley Ruins Grace in Mountaintops of the Giants
No need to defeat bosses here. Just touch and rest at the Site of Grace. Millicent will appear. You know the drill, exhaust all her dialog options.
After these encounters, Millicent will then move on to the secret and optional Haligtree area. We’re assuming you’ve already unlocked it; if not, here’s our own guide.
Meeting Millicent in the Haligtree
You have to make progress in the Haligtree all the way into Malenia’s boss room. Millicent will appear along the way at certain spots and Sites of Grace in the game.
You will need to take some detours before facing Malenia if you want to finish the Millicent questline.
Prayer Room Grace in Elphael at the Haligtree
Thankfully, your first meeting with Millicent in the Haligtree areas is straightforward. Just rest at the Prayer Room Site of Grace, and she’ll be there.
If she isn’t, then rest again and again until she appears. It’s also possible that you might have missed some of the encounters we listed above, and you’ll have to go back and trigger those for Millicent to appear at later levels.
Detour Before the Drainage Channel Grace
This will be your final trigger for the Millicent questline. It’s easy to miss, but here’s how you’ll access it.
- Go to the area before the Drainage Channel Site of Grace. It’s the mini-Scarlet Rot swamp.
- Cross the root of the tree and into another swamp platform; Ulcerated Tree Spirit will appear.
- Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Rest at any Grace and return to the area where you defeated the Ulcerated Tree Spirit.
- On the elevated ground, you will find two summon signs, gold and red.
- The red sign will have you fighting Millicent.
- The gold sign will have you helping Millicent against her sisters.
- Fighting Millicent ends her questline prematurely then and there, but helping her will lead to the finale of the Millicent questline. We recommend helping her.
- Millicent will die even if you help her. Talk to her near where the summon signs used to be after the battle, and she’ll give you the Unalloyed Gold Needle.
Defeat Malenia and Use the Unalloyed Gold Needle
As an epilogue to the Millicent questline, you can use the Unalloyed Golden Needle after defeating Malenia. That’s the hard part, though; you have to defeat Malenia first.
After you defeat Malenia, rest at any Grace and return to the boss area to find a large Scarlet Rot flower. You can use the Unalloyed Golden Needle at this flower to receive a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and Miquella’s Needle.
Miquella’s Needle is rather important as it can help you reverse the Flame of Frenzy ending and the path you chose. Sadly, if you want to kill Millicent instead of helping her in the summon sign battle (as it will grant you an additional reward), then you’ll have to do that in another playthrough.
