After the long wait, Elden Ring fans are finally treated to a story trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the DLC expansion that lets you venture into the Lands Between and beyond one more time. FromSoftware has set the bar high with the cryptic storytelling it’s known for. The release date for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is June 21, 2024, on every platform the base game is available on.
The trailer shows how the player will explore the Land of Shadow because of Michelle, who was not given much screen time in the base game but is seemingly a very important character in Shadow of the Erdtree. Although don’t expect a sensible narrative from the trailer, it includes all the squishy objects one might expect, with hints about the expansive world.
We can gather that Messmer will be the game’s true antagonist. The trailer also shows the lands ablaze, with different serpents impaled on spikes. Much of this might hint at the upcoming bosses and story beats, but that will only make sense once released.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is a massive expansion. It will add new weapons, skills, equipment, magic, and enemies. The new region is called the Land of Shadow, and it can travel to and from the Lands Between at will.
Being a massive DLC expansion, it costs $39.99 on top of the base game, which is required to play the DLC. The scale and scope of Shadow of the Erdtree confirms that fans should not expect more major DLC for the game in the future. According to the President of FromSoftware, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Elden Ring will not get any further content updates after Shadow of the Erdtree. But he did suggest that this is not the end of the Elden Ring IP.
