It is always sad when we hear or read news about someone plagiarizing. It is even more shocking when we find out that it is a big game backed up by a huge company and name that does the thing. Not long ago, we saw an indie game accused of plagiarizing several animations from Elden Ring. Today, we have news about Elder Scrolls Online plagiarizing fan art for a cosmetic item inside the game’s store. This is bad as many fans spend hours drawing, creating, and sharing their work just to have someone take it without giving them credit.
Elder Scrolls Online Accused of Stealing Fan Art for a New Crown Store Item
As you might know, Elder Scrolls Online has a store called the Crown Store. You can buy Crowns with real money and spend them on cosmetics, mounts, and houses. Right now, there’s a new marking or tattoo that a user noticed was similar to their art. After checking it, they accused Elder Scrolls Online of stealing this fan art for the game. While ESO has already put out an official statement, it is horrible that this happened and that the artist didn’t get credit at all.
Official response regarding someone’s fan art ending up as a Crown Store item.

We don’t know how this will end, but we hope the artist gets compensated. When it comes to big companies with many resources, it looks bad to see them stealing stuff from people instead of creating something more original. It seems that this isn’t the first case of plagiarism that involves ESO. Back when the MMO wanted to launch a Tabletop Game, it was pulled as it faced several plagiarism accusations. This time we don’t know if they’ll end up pulling the skin and removing it from the game, including those who already own it, or compensate the artist and leave the cosmetic. Whatever the resolution, it is horribly disappointing to see Elder Scrolls Online stealing fan art to make a new item for its store.
