‘Elon Musk’ Dies in Path of Exile 2, Loses Character After Reportedly Cheating His Way to the Top

The great equalizer

A few days ago, some Reddit sleuths and Path of Exile 2 pundits suggested that Elon Musk was boosting his account or paying other players to grind for him in-game. One of Musk’s characters, reportedly named Percy_Verence has even managed to make it near the top of the Hardcore server leaderboards. Sadly, Percy_Verence or Elon Musk has recently died and as with all Hardcore server characters in Path of Exile 2, this death is permanent.

The news came from Path of Exile 2 players themselves, namely u/JRoyales of the Path of Exile 2 subreddit. u/JRoyales posted a quick screenshot of the announcement for Percy_Verence’s death. Elon Musk’s character was even ranked 7th on the ladder or leaderboards (which is a race to get to Level 100).

Hardcore characters’ deaths in Path of Exile 2 are typically announced along with their position on the ladder, and Elon Musk’s character was so close to the top. Again, Hardcore characters in Path of Exile 2 shouldn’t die because death means they get transferred to softcore or Standard servers where the punishment for death is lighter (losing XP).

After an unfortunate death, the Hardcore character will no longer be available in Hardcore servers. This effectively translates to losing the character, unless Musk wants to continue to play in Path of Exile 2‘s Standard servers where death and skill are more or less inconsequential.

Did Musk Pay to Win?

According to the previous accusations, Elon Musk also has other Hardcore characters. It appears, however, that Percy_Verence is Elon Musk’s highest-ranked Hardcore character, and the billionaire will have to play his lower-ranked Hardcore characters (or pay someone else to do it) if he wants to reach the top once more.

Prior to losing his top Hardcore character, various accusations with their own solid evidence have surfaced on Reddit and streaming platforms. In most of the video examples, Elon Musk supposedly does not know how to play the game despite having several well-geared endgame characters.

Thus, many Path of Exile 2 players have assumed that Musk either bought the account or boosted it– both of which are against the game’s policies.
