Entertainment icon Elton John continues to struggle with health issues that have forced the Rocket Man hitmaker into making some profound lifestyle changes. The singer admits that while bitter and sad about his circumstances, he has little choice.
Elton John suffers from numerous health struggles that have left the 77-year-old in declining health. Over the years, Elton has undergone multiple surgeries and issues that have taken a toll on him.
The music icon’s list of health concerns continues to grow. He is dealing with persistent hip and knee trouble, prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes, and, most recently, a severe eye infection that left him partially blind. It is a massive blow to his larger-than-life ego.
Despite his long list of ailments, Elton admits the one that is the most challenging for him is type 2 diabetes. The singer was diagnosed in the early 2000s, and even so, his struggles continue to mount, especially when it comes to his limited diet.
Elton John Feels His Days Are Numbered
Elton admits he has a very large and demanding sweet tooth. So, keeping his diet under control is not easy. However, according to Radar Online, he has accepted that he is doomed to live out his final days snacking on bits of apple and melon.
“I can have an apple. I can eat a bit of melon. As long as you’re sensible about it, it doesn’t shoot your blood sugar up. But what I crave is chocolate and ice cream. I can’t have any ice cream,” he claims.
The singer faces the cold, hard fact that he no longer has a say in his life. Elton claims that should he stray from his strict diet, he’ll be forced to ‘meet his maker‘ after gobbling down a tableful of sugary treats.
“If I had a death row meal, it wouldn’t contain anything except sweets because I can’t eat them now. So, I’d have ice cream, donuts, apple pie, rhubarb crumble,” admits John.
Recently, Elton John stated that due to his health problems and surgeries, including knee and hip replacements, prostate cancer, and a near-blinding eye infection, there is not much left of him. He also claims that he feels that he ‘didn’t have long to live.’
It’s A Family Battle
However, he has three important reasons to keep fighting: his husband, David Furnish, and their two young sons, Zachary and Elijah. Elton hopes to stick around long enough to see his children grow and share in their major milestones.
“I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know.”
The health restrictions are not easy on him. He claims they tend to make him a bit moody and hard to live with from time to time. But his family loves him. They want to do everything possible to ensure Elton is around as long as possible.
So, if his husband and sons have any say in the matter, they will continue to keep him far away from the sweets he craves, whether he likes it or not.
