Recently, Emily Blunt has been receiving criticism for insensitive comments she made on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2012. During her appearance, Blunt recalled eating at a Chili’s restaurant, where she met a waitress who she described as “enormous.” The Oppenheimer star continued to poke fun at the server’s appearance by saying that she must get “freebie meals” at Chili’s. After the clip resurfaced on social media, fans called out Blunt for fat-shaming the server. Now, Blunt has responded to the criticism by issuing an apology for her past remarks.

In Emily Blunt’s apology, the star said she was “appalled” after watching the viral clip and hearing herself make those comments. “My jaw was on the floor,” she told People. She added that she was in disbelief that she would ever say something “so insensitive” and “hurtful.” She also acknowledged that her comments were completely “unrelated” to her story.
The A Quiet Place star explained that she “wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone,” so she doesn’t understand why she would ever criticize someone’s appearance. She stated,
Whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for.
Since she can’t take back what happened, Blunt wanted to offer an apology.
“I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.”
Emily Blunt’s apology has received mixed reactions from fans online. Some think she was being sincere and has since grown from her past actions. “A lot can change in a decade,” one person wrote. “Not many celebs own up to their mistakes but Emily did it,” another commented.
Meanwhile, others haven’t been so quick to accept her apology. “It would have been more sincere if it had been made to the person,” one fan pointed out.
