The Epic Games store has officially made two iconic horror games free just in time for Halloween. This spooky season, the store has made many of its various titles free or discounted on PC, but now it’s time for the main event, and Epic Games is celebrating accordingly. Starting today, October 19th, players will have a limited time to download and play Bethesda Softworks The Evil Within and Entangled Threads for free, just before Halloween. For fans interested in The Evil Within 2, that game will also be part of a giveaway after the current one ends.

Published by Bethesda Softworks in 2014, The Evil Within is a survival horror game that puts players in the shoes of Detective Sebastian Castellanos, a man who’s been tasked with investigating a gruesome murder and uncovering how it connects to a “deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead”, per the official game description. Typically, Epic Games offers The Evil Within for $19.99.

The other game currently on sale is Eternal Threads, a 2022 game from Cosmonaut Studios and Secret Mode. Unlike The Evil Within, Eternal Threads is a first-person puzzle game where the player is tasked with managing the decisions of six housemates across various timelines in order to prevent their horrific deaths. Epic Games usually offers Eternal Threads for $19.99, but for the next seven days, it’s 100% off.

Starting October 19th and ending at 11:00 AM ET on October 26th, the Epic Games store offers both The Evil Within and Eternal Threads completely free, just in time for Halloween. If you’ve already bought The Evil Within and are interested in its sequel, then good news: The Evil Within 2 is set to go on sale next week, after the current sale ends on October 26th.
